after 3.5 years (to the day), i drove my notchback on the street!!! Went down the street and back (about 1/2 mile) and then shut it off. I now have all 4 forward gears and reverse! Now to crawl under it and slowly work from one end to the other and make sure everything is tightened, there are no leaks and install the bellows and oil filter. _________________ 64 1500 Notchback Drag Car (champagne purple)

did a long drive today in the notch today... freeway, 6% grade, back roads and am pretty happy! i have a fuel line that doesn't want to seat on a carb to deal with, but everything else did really well! adjusted the idle on the carbs a bit and they try and hold an idle after getting full warm.
the top of the case after the full run was under 220F, the sump plate was at 192F, the oil cooler was 70F cooler than the sump plate and the car is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much more quiet than the squareback! all in all, a good morning. _________________ 64 1500 Notchback Drag Car (champagne purple)

as annoying as last minutes issues are, i'm glad they happen prior to departure! last night, i went to put the rear wheels back on the car and pulled a stud out of the driver's side hub. so... off to the FLAPS i go to get a new german one. of course, they only have the brazilian there. so, i plop down the $, get the hub machined for my application and get it installed today. after another long drive, i want to retorque everything and what do you know, i pull a stud on the right rear. so, tomorrow i get to put a new hub on there. it was $ i hadn't planned on spending, but i'd rather due it here than on the road!!! _________________ 64 1500 Notchback Drag Car (champagne purple)

the 2110cc engine, spooled trans and the notch all survived 4300+ miles of drive to the Type 3 Invasion.
I lost 2 front tires due to a bent tie rod after hitting a frost heave at 60mph in the night, had to solder up my main jets and rejet them to the correct size (the jets were stamped 125, but were actually 140s!) and I had to re-rebuild the carbs in the host hotel parking lot. Other than that... it was peachy!
